Lab 2#

Q1:

I would like to research further on how the colorimetry machine works, and how the light works. Or how the light that shines through determines the absorbency. To find this out I might want to use the colorimetry test again on different liquids. This might help me find out how it works.

Q2 and 3:

I think my approach was different because I was used to labs by the second time around. I also think I worked faster on my labs because I was use to the lab system. I also felt more confident in my observations because I picked partners that would maybe catch my mistakes. Or I would catch there's so we knew are information was right. In the first lab that I did The Ink is Still Wet i felt lost confident. I think this is because I was still getting use to labs and it was one of the harder labs for me. In the end I felt more confident though because I got help from my partner and Bert. Next time I think I will be even more confident because I will know some more scientific language and be able to get through procedures easily.

Forensics' Lab

While doing the different science labs I had to make multiple observations. Sometimes that meant that I had to record different things. I think that helped with coming to conclusions because I was able to go back and look at my observations. For instance when I had to find out which piece of fabric was the criminals using the telescope helped me narrow down my observations. The pieces of fabric that didn’t look like the one at the crime scene I immediately made a mental note that said that the piece of fabric was most likely not the criminals.

Sometimes it was hard to get precise results because of miscommunication. I found that in different labs such as the bullet firearms lab my partner and I had problems figuring out some of the instructions. So we had to get help and try again because we didn’t get it the first time. But I think that’s all part of the process and at the end we did finish the lab.

With my partners information and me we knew that it was right because we did it right in front of us and trusted are information. I think that we could rely on are observations but sometimes we made a mistake and had to go back. Using common knowledge we sometimes questioned ourselves but we where always able to get help. With the information given to us we relied on that more because we knew it would be right because the paper said it. We immediately thought since the instructions said it, and then it should be right.

Blood Splatter

With the multiple drops at each height it allowed us to see the different shapes of the drops. When the drops where higher up they tended to splash and make more drops. Using the multiple drops allowed me and my partner to see the different shapes the blood platters made. And how they would change form different heights.

The higher we would drop the blood the more it would spread out. Most of are higher drops would be the size of a quarter. The also would be in the shape of a corona top. I think that it would be hard to be accurate on the height of which a blood dropped. Because using the materials given it was hard to control the drops. This happened because sometimes the blood drops would come out to fast. The maybe two drops would come out. Maybe with better tools and an extra test we would be able to be more accurate.

Sound of Science

Mardi Gras Fun!

It was 11:45 and people where still parting at the big Mardi gras celebration in New Orleans. And it was the first time that Carly would get to go to enjoy it with her brother Spencer. There parents where both from New Orleans and they would always talk about how much fun it was so they decided to go for the celebration. Their where lights all around them and a live band. The band was playing the trumpet and the drums.

They both stopped to stare at the amazing site of the band. They all had their traditional Mardi gras colors on. The traditional colors where Green, Gold and Purple. As they played there music they would sway and there colored beads would sway in the air as well. Spencer enjoyed the band the most since he plays the drums.

People where all around them it was hard to here what they where trying to say to each other. People all around where laughing and dancing and then they all had to part so that the band could get through. They had a person in the front with a whistle commanding everyone. It was fascinating for the brother and sister to watch since they've never experienced such a thing before. They stayed for hours after that but then the party was over. But later on that night while in bed, they still heard the music and people enjoying their selves.
